A toothache

My Life... The Toothache

It was Wednesday morning when my tooth ached horribly.  All thanks to an invading gum which would pain even if I touch it with a toothbrush!

It was paining horribly. I thought that the pain would sojourn after a while but it was no use! It just kept getting worse. “Dear Prisha (pronounced Preesha), would you like some khakhra (an Indian thin disc made for breakfast)?” said my mother.

I had no intention of telling my mother or my dentist about this pain as I thought that I might have to do a root canal. I drank the chocolate milk up. I chewed some nuts on the right side of my jaw and then went into my room.

“What happened Prisha?” asked my mother lovingly. I said nothing. I had like 9 cavities. My mother knew that. She asked me to open my mouth wide. She saw my tooth but kept her mouth tied. That night, at 5:00 in the morning, I saw my mom and dad talking about something. Like a ninja, I peeked through the door gap and heard, “We will have too!” from my mom. “Oh hi Prisha!” said my father. “Dad, is it going to hurt? The tooth extraction?” I asked in a low voice. “Nope!” my mom replied.

The next day, I went to my friend’s mother, who was a dentist. “Hello Prisha!” she said in a joyful way. First, she checked my tooth. Then she put an injection. I tried to move her hand but, the injection only hurt for like 30 seconds. Then, something strange happened. I couldn’t feel my left side! It was numb. Then, she extracted a tooth. I didn’t have to go for a root canal! I was relieved. She gave me a tissue to put the tooth in.

I couldn’t chew anything for a whole day! So, my mother made fresh buttermilk and khichdi. (Indian cuisine made of rice and lentils). Then I slept, expecting no tooth fairy!

The next day the tooth was fine. My mother said that it was a baby tooth and it will grow back in a year or two.

So friends, if anyone of you has an extraction, just don’t worry!!
